CASA by the Lakes will host the annual Fun Walk/Run and Chili Challenge on October 25 at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park. The theme for this year’s event is Cowboys vs. Robots. The public is invited to pick a side, dress the part, and take a stand against child abuse by walking or running across the Kentucky Dam and voting in the highly competitive chili cook-off! Registration for the Cowboy vs. Robots Fun Walk/Run begins October 25 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kentucky Dam Village Beach parking lot. Registration costs $10 per participant; children, ages 10 and under, may participate for $5. The Walk/Run begins at 10:30 A.M. Following the Fun Walk/Run, participants are invited to attend the annual CASA Chili Challenge at the Kentucky Dam Village State Park Lakeview Pavilion. Doors open at 12:00 PM with the event lasting until 2:00 P.M. A $5 suggested donation is requested per bowl. Each $5 donation also receives one “Crowd Favorite” vote. Each additional “Crowd Favorite” votes may be purchased for $1 each.
Plan to Be Tobacco Free with Jamie Smith of the Kentucky Cancer Program on Thursday, October 16 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Smith will be presenting a free session to teach people how to be smoke free. The class will address addiction, behaviors and available resources, and will help smokers develop a quit plan. Looking ahead, an AARP Safe Driving Class will be held Wednesday, November 5 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. A newly-formed Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia Caregivers Support Group will meet Thursday, October 16 from 10-11 a.m. in the Yellow Room of the Murray Senior Center at 607 Poplar Street. This newly-formed support group will meet the 3rd Thursday of each month and is designed for caregivers of people with any type of dementia.
