The Murray-Calloway Co. Parks & Recreation Department is accepting entries for a fall adult (18-over) recreational co-ed slowpitch softball league.  The league will be governed by NSA rules with a few local modifications and is limited to the first 12 teams to enter.  Season starts on September 2 and runs through October 26 with a 10-game regular season and post-season double-elimination tourney.  Team entry fee is $425.  Call the MCC Parks at 270-762-0325 or email tab.brockman@murrayparks.org to register, or for additional information.

Beginning Line Dance Classes will be offered free of charge for those 60 and older at the Murray Senior Center at 607 Poplar Street in Murray. Classes will be held Thursday's from 12:30-1:15 pm beginning September 4 and continuing through November. Also, free Pinochle classes will be offered beginning September 3 and running each Wednesday from 9-11 am through September. Class size is limited. Look Good…Feel Better, A free, non-medical, brand-neutral national public service program to help women offset appearance-related changes from cancer treatments, will be held Tuesday, August 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the Center for Health and Wellness. Free health screenings will be offered Wednesday, August 27 from 6-11 a.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Screenings offered will include blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference, osteoporosis heel scan and blood sugar (finger stick). To schedule an appointment, call (270) 762-1348.

A blood drive will be held Wednesday, September 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Come give the gift of life and support the MCCH Blood Donor Center.

A free nutrition education event titled “Sub Sandwich 101” will be held Friday, September 12 from 9-9:30 a.m. in the Center for Health and Wellness. Dive right in and join Rebecca Wright, Registered Dietitian, for a discussion on getting the greatest health benefit from your sub sandwich.

Plan to Be Tobacco Free with Jamie Smith of the Kentucky Cancer Program on Monday, September 15 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Smith will be presenting a free session to teach people how to be smoke free. The class will address addiction, behaviors and available resources, and will help smokers develop a quit plan. All tobacco users and non-tobacco users who would like to learn more are welcome. Pre-registration is required! For more information or to register, call Jamie Smith at 270-442-1310. Friday, September 19 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Stewart County Senior Citizen Center, 111 General Rice Street, Dover, Tenn. – Lipids, Blood Sugar and PSA screenings. 12-hour fast 

Free health screenings will be offered during the Wesley at Murray Health Fair on Wednesday, September 24 from 8-10 a.m. at the Wesley Retirement center, 440 Utterback Road, Murray. MCCH Wellness Works staff will provide free lipid, blood sugar and PSA screenings in addition to heel scans for osteoporosis screening. A 12-hour fast, no food or drink except water, is required for the blood draw. Other community partners will be on hand to offer a variety of screenings.
